Are you a visionary leader with a passion for innovation and technology? Tana Oy is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President, Research & Development to lead our R&D function and drive our strategic initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our company and waste management industry, and make a significant impact on Tana’s growth and success.

As the Vice President, Research & Development, you will report directly to the Tana CEO and be a key member of our management team. You will be responsible for defining and executing our R&D strategy, driving innovation, and enhancing R&D efficiency and integration. Your role will initially focus on leading our Finnish R&D team, with the potential to evolve into a regional leadership role encompassing possible acquired R&D units and teams abroad.

In this role, you will lead technology scouting and research to support next-generation product development, ensuring that Tana remains at the forefront of technological trends and opportunities. You will also be responsible for building scalable, cross-functional R&D processes and practices to support innovation and commercial success. Additionally, you will drive alignment between R&D and other key business functions, define partner and subcontracting strategies, and oversee the evaluation and introduction of new tools, platforms, and practices to increase R&D efficiency.

Expectations for background:

We are looking for a candidate with proven leadership experience in R&D team management, ideally in both centralized and distributed/global settings. You should have a solid technical understanding in relevant fields, e.g., engineering, automation, hydraulics, electronics, control systems, and digital system solutions. Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical functions are essential, as well as strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.

Ideally you also have experience in implementing agile methodologies and performance management frameworks, as well as experience in M&A environments, including due diligence processes, integration planning, and post-merger harmonization. A master’s degree in a relevant field of technology is required, EMBA or similar degree is an advantage. Fluency in Finnish and English is also essential.

Big and small differences when recruiting across borders

When a company recruits from outside its domestic market, it is important to consider the following factors:

  • clear geographical limitations on the candidates
    practical implementation of the Executive Search process: where and how the candidates are met and who participates in the interviews and meetings
  • the candidates’ educational and experience background and expectations regarding the salary level, job title and job description, as well as any previous connection to the target country or Finland and its companies
  • the work community’s readiness for international experts: adaptation of the employee to a foreign cultural and linguistic environment, support provided by the organisation in practical matters, as well as employer obligations related to the employment relationship, such as residence and work permits

When you participate in a personnel assessment

The Finnish Act on the Protection of Privacy in Working Life (759/2004) stipulates that any testing related to personnel assessment always requires the consent of the person who is to be tested, which is why we ask for your consent for the assessment. According to the recommendation of the Finnish Psychological Association, the test results should be stored for two years, during which time it is possible to reuse the test results. This is to avoid unnecessary testing. Momentous Oy stores your personal data in its systems for a maximum of two years, after which your data is erased.

By participating in the personal assessment, you also give Momentous Oy preliminary permission to reuse your test results. We will always ask for your permission to use the test results before reusing them. In addition, you give Momentous Oy permission to enquire of the party which requested the assessment about your work performance. This is part of our follow-up in order to monitor the quality of our personal assessments.

Personnel assessment

A psychological personnel assessment provides valuable insights to support recruitment decisions, map the individual’s skills, and identify their potential. It offers a deeper understanding of the person’s capabilities, as well as the behavioural patterns and motivational factors influencing their actions.

Our multi-method personnel assessments include elements such as psychologist-led interviews, simulated work scenarios, case exercises, and various tests and questionnaires. The methods used are selected in collaboration with the client based on the defined needs, the role, and the organisation’s practices. A multi-method approach significantly enhances the accuracy of the assessment, providing valuable insights into the individual’s intrinsic motivators and value base.

Our assessment methods have been developed in collaboration with the University of Helsinki. Ongoing development ensures a diverse and up-to-date range of assessment tools.

A comprehensive and multi-method personnel assessment is an outsourced evaluation that we handle seamlessly from start to finish, tailored to your schedule. You will receive a concise and focused evaluation from a psychologist on one or more candidates, providing valuable support for decision-making and leadership.

Personal assessments are suitable for all types of evaluation needs, particularly when assessing candidates for demanding specialist or leadership roles.

Participation typically requires three to six hours of the candidate’s time. The assessment report can be completed as quickly as the day after the evaluation.

Agile assessment

In an agile assessment, a psychologist-consultant joins the recruitment process at an early stage and participates in the candidate’s interview alongside the hiring manager. Like other assessments, the agile assessment is multi-method, including psychological tests and a work sample.

For both you and the candidate, the agile assessment is a time-efficient and streamlined process, eliminating the need for separate scheduling of a traditional personal assessment. Results are delivered verbally immediately after the interview and in writing the very next day.

Agile assessment allows you to cost-efficient evaluate a larger pool of candidates. It is particularly well-suited for specialist, manager, and team leader roles.

Potential assessment complements the personnel assessment

Potential mapping is particularly useful in organisational growth and transformation situations where there is a need to identify hidden potential. Additionally, potential mapping helps identify areas where an individual’s potential is not yet being fully utilised or potential for growth. It helps identify managerial potential, restructuring tasks, or as part of leadership team coaching, individual coaching, and career guidance, among other things.

Potential mapping focuses on exploring motivational factors, skills, and development potential. In competitive talent markets, identifying potential allows you to find the necessary expertise internally, within your own organisation.

We conduct potential mapping using personnel assessment methods and work with the client to agree on a flexible schedule. We provide a report to support the individual’s development, and the feedback is reviewed in a coaching manner with the assessed individual. If multiple individuals participate in the potential mapping, we provide a summary report to support organisational-level development plans.
